Help with Food Addictions

Addictions are tough; no two ways about it. I find in my practice that many people are addicted to sweets, or caffeine, or sometimes salty foods. Whatever a person's weak spot is, it can be very challenging in the natural to overcome that stronghold. Be encouraged! God has given us the Word to overcome this problem.

God wants us to, "Come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need" (Hebrews 4:16). If we know what's right for our bodies, but are doing the opposite, we are in sin (James 4:17), and our own heart condemns us (1 John 3:20). It's hard to come to your Father for help when you have these issues, so here are some great Words of Wisdom and help...

First, God already knows what you are going through. 1 Corinthians 10:13 tells us that "No temptation has taken you but such is common to man; but God is faithful, Who will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear, but with that trial will also provide you a way out so that you may be able to endure it".
He tells us in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 that, "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh for the weapons of our warfare are not human weapons, but are made powerful by God for tearing down of strongholds, casting down every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ." Every action starts with a thought, and this is where the stronghold begins. As soon as we get the thought to eat or drink the thing that we know in our hearts is not God's best for our body, we AT THAT MOMENT must cast it down with our words! It is a mountain in our lives and we must speak to it! Jesus says, "Have faith in God. Verily I say to you, whosoever shall say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea' and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that what he says comes to pass, he shall have it". (Mark 11:22-24)

So, your prayer might go something like this, "In Jesus' mighty Name, I speak to this mountain of chocolate addiction! Get out of my head, out of my body, and out of my life! I cast you down and command that you, my body, get in line with the Word of God! Psalm 103:3-5 says that God satisifies my mouth and desire with good things so that my youth is renewed like the eagles! I receive it right now! I thank you, Father, that I have a desire for healthy foods that you provided for me in Your kingdom! I receive my healing right now according to 1 Peter 2:24, in Jesus Name, Amen!"

He goes on to say that when you are praying is when you are receiving what you pray for, because you are believing and having faith the moment you pray about it! We know that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the EVIDENCE of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1) Your faith in that moment, if you truly believe the Word of God and do not doubt in your heart, is the evidence that what you prayed about and asked for will come to pass. God is faithful and WILL perform as promised (Romans 4:21).

Next, as we go throughout our day, we need to line up our words with what we prayed about. We can't go around saying, "I'm addicted to chocolate, I just can't get through one day without it". That cancels out what we just prayed about! Instead, when tempatation comes, we say, "Satan, get out of my head! You have no authority over me! I am a child of God and I already cast this thought down and out of me! By Jesus' stripes I AM HEALED and I crave and feed my body only healthy foods!

Bless the Lord, He has given us help! I know that speaking the Word to the problem is a habit that needs to be developed, but with persistance, you will do it! Be healthy!
